Bright Possibilities…

Raku is a firing method taken from a 16th century Japanese process in which the piece is removed glowing hot from a 2000° kiln and placed into combustibles. The resulting smoke and flame create a serendipitous display of vivid color on copper patina and unique carbon patterns on a piece’s unglazed areas.

Raku is capricious. The blazing colors have a mind of their own and there is just so much the artist can do to guide them in the right direction. But the hard work, dedication and inspiration that Judy builds into her pieces isn’t capricious at all. And what she creates from the flames is a blend of science and color built on the art she loves.

Geerts has won numerous awards.  Her work is included in many public and private collections.  She displays at select galleries and juried art fairs throughout the Midwest.
